Ministry to publish names of firms violating labour law, says official

The names of companies violating labour law will be made public once the Ministry of Labour completes a review of its inspection rules, said a senior official of the ministry.

“New rules for inspection are being prepared and it will be announced soon. Once the new rules are enforced, the names of erring companies will be disclosed” Mohammad Ali Al Meer, Assistant Director of the Inspection Department at the Ministry told a local Arabic daily.

The Inspection Department will shortly hold a seminar for operators and employees of beauty salons to educate on new inspection rules before their implementation.

Al Meer said that five companies had been referred to the Public Prosecution for tampering with workers’ salary list last year. It is mandatory for the companies to submit details of salaries to the Labour Department on a monthly basis to ensure that they are paid in time.
