FDI and SME should grow parallel, says Al Maimani


The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME’s) are vital to a nation’s economy and they should grow in parallel to each other, according to a ley official from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Speaking to the Observer, Ahmed Sulaiman Saleh al Maimani, Under-Secretary for Administrative, Financial and Regional Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Industry said the investment environment is highly favourable that nurtures both the overseas investments as well as the homegrown small and medium sector and startups.

“The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has been taking good care of the SME’s and FDI and they should grow in a balanced way parallel to each other. We are providing the support to both in terms of incentives, availability of information, and by providing the right environment for both sectors”, Ahmed Sulaiman said on the sidelines of the recently held FDI seminar at the Al Bustan Palace A Ritz Carlton Hotel Muscat.

The seminar titled “Opportunities and Challenges for FDI Attraction in The MENA Region”, organised by Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (PAIPED) and sponsored by the Government of Spain broadly looked into the advantages and challenges of SME’s facing in the MENA region.
