More govt support needed to boost hotel industry

Hotel industry is a growing business all over the world, as also in Kuwait, but an industry insider said it required government help to sustain such a lucrative business. Speaking with the Kuwait Times, the General Manager of The Regency Hotel, Aurelio P. Giraudo, said the government had little option but to diversify and work hard to attract tourists. “Creating more tourist attractions such as entertainment facilities, easing the visas, enabling new airports to handle bigger aircrafts and enhancing capacities are just some of our recommendations,” he said.

“People outside Kuwait still think we are at war with our neighbours and that we are very narrow minded people although the truth is the opposite. People here are free. We enjoy freedom here, but few know about it. We need to change people’s perception outside Kuwait. I believe that if the government was to spend on advertising Kuwaiti tourism potential, the sector will definitely attract much larger number of visitors,” he added.
