Oman looks to SMEs for economy boost


Underlining the importance of the Small and Medium sector Enterprises in enriching the national economy, the fourth SME Exhibition and Conference was opened by Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed al Saadi, Minister of Commerce and Industry at the Oman International Exhibition Centre yesterday.

Organised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in association with Trifoil Expo, the three day event focuses on self-employment and training and enabling more and more young Omanis to venture into startups.

"His Majesty the Sultan has stressed the importance of SME's in Oman in his royal speech at Bahla recently as these sectors are an inevitable part of a modern economy and Oman is no exception", Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed al Saadi, Minister of Commerce and Industry told the media after going round the pavilions. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of SMEs as the main base for the national economy by shedding more light on the role played by SMEs to create jobs with the social and economic updates.
