UAE Army Spends $1.33 Bln on Defence Contracts at IDEX Event


The United Arab Emirates Armed Forces awarded 19 defence contracts worth 4.9 billion dirhams ($1.33 billion) to local and international companies on the third day of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference, a military official said on Tuesday.

The contracts "include the purchase of military machinery, weapons and ammunition, accessories to bombs, and aircraft maintenance, as well as technical amendments to naval equipment," Major General Obeid Al Ketbi was quoted by the state-run news agency WAM as saying.

Tuesday's deals bring the total spent by the U.A.E. armed forces on equipment to AED10.1 billion, after it awarded several defense companies contracts worth AED5.2 billion on Monday. The biggest deal yesterday was awarded to Oshkosh Corp. (OSK), the U.S. heavy duty vehicle manufacturer.
