There will be a dramatic increase in import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by Japan from Qatar in the near future, according to a senior official of Japan Cooperation Centre, Petroleum (JCCP).

“Qatar is a close partner of Japan, especially in the field of energy. The supply of LNG makes up a major part of Japan’s total import from Qatar,” JCCP Managing Director Morihiro Yoshida said at the second joint Qatar-Japan Environment Symposium, which began in Doha, on Tuesday.

“As LNG is one of the main sources of power generation in Japan, the reliable and stable supply plays a significant role in sustaining the Japanese economy,” he said.
