Middle East airlines contributed almost a third of the total expansion in international passenger markets in 2012 with 15.4 percent growth, according to latest figures released by International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The performance for last year was ahead of the 8.9 percent growth recorded in 2011 which was impacted by the Arab Spring.
IATA said growth in 2012 was achieved with a capacity expansion of 12.5 percent while improving the load factor to 77.4 percent.
It added that the region’s carriers increased the connectivity of their expanding hubs with significant increases in both network (destinations) and frequency.
